Fishing the tiny River Medlock and beyond

Last outing before Christmas
A spare Tuesday in early December and a beautiful day saw me heading to the River Etherow in Tintwistle. Not having fished this river for some years I didn't know quite what to expect. On arrival the river looked perfect, I was now hoping for a few chub or perch to round off a decent year. I started upstream near Tintwistle village after some intrepid wading to reach the more productive swims as I remembered them. There were plenty of bites from the start, all resulting in small brown trout, this river is full of them. No chub or perch but I managed to catch plenty of fish. Nothing big today but they are there and at around lunchtime I lost a much larger specimen after a long scrap it managed to shake the hook as it headed towards the near bank brambles.
I dare say I will give this stretch another go in the new year, but with having just shook the flu, and the hectic Christmas activities the last three weeks have seen me away from the bank. Next time out will see another trip to my local River Medlock (The Meddy) on Saturday in search of some chub. Till then....
